ACF hails defection of five PDP govs to APC

ACF National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Anthony Sani

Pan-Northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, has hailed the defection of five of the seven rebel governors of the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The forum described the defection as democracy in action.
The ACF, through its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Anthony Sani, on Wednesday in Kaduna  argued  that the action of the governors was healthy for the nation’s democracy.
Besides that,  it noted that the unfolding event was healthy for the polity, considering the fact that  democracy without viable opposition was a sham.
The northern body  further noted that with the defection the country was tilting towards a two-party  state that the forum had longed for since the system could provide  clear choices for voters.
It said that the multi-party system was yet to impact positively  on Nigerians in terms of providing  clear choices to the 73 million eligible voters in the country.
The umbrella body of the North said, “ACF sees the unfolding events as a healthy development towards emergence of a viable alternative platform for the polity, considering the fact that democracy without viable opposition is a sham.
“ACF, therefore, hopes the unfolding political dynamics will lead to the evolution of two political parties which are far-sighted, sure-footed and resolute in their determination to promote democracy premised on triple foundation of liberty, justice and common decency, needed for the development and growth of our democracy.”
Similarly, the immediate-past Chairman of the  Peoples Democratic Party   in Kwara State, Alhaji Ishola Balogun-Fulani, on Wednesday said   PDP was dead in the state with the defection of the members to the APC.
Balogun-Fulani who formerly headed the PDP faction loyal to a former Governor of the State, Dr. Bukola Saraki, otherwise called the New PDP, said their members were defecting en masse to the APC.
He spoke in Ilorin while announcing the defection of members of  PDP to APC.
Meanwhile, a former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Abiodun Aluko, has described the merger of the Alhaji Abubakar Baraje-led New PDP with the APC as a selfish alliance that could not stand the test of time.
Aluko spoke on Wednesday in a statement made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti, the state capital by his Special Assistant on Media, Dele Owoyomi.
The statement read, “The move was a calculated attempt to frustrate the unity of the country which would soon collapse like a pack of cards.”
